Target Return Policy – Restrictions and Exemptions

Read Time:2 Minute, 26 Second

Are you wondering what the Target return policy is? Here are some tips for ensuring a smooth return experience. Keep reading to learn about Target’s Restrictions and Exemptions. Do you need a Government-issued ID to return an item? And do you need to try on clothes before buying? Then, you’ll be well-prepared to make an informed decision. Target is a relatively accommodating store when it comes to returns.

Target’s return policy

A recent Business Insider investigation into Target’s return policy uncovered some truly bizarre situations. Target employees described seeing items like opened condom boxes, lawn-mowing equipment, and even a U-Haul full of home goods being returned. One employee said that he once saw a customer returning unopened chips to a party. The worker didn’t even know that food returned to the store is tossed. Regardless of the circumstances, he said that the return policy has left customers feeling less than satisfied.

Restrictions

If you are in need of an exchange or refund, you must show identification when you visit Target. This is in line with the return policy of other retailers. For example, Wal-Mart lets you exchange or return items without a receipt for up to three times within 45 days, but you need to show a receipt to be eligible for a refund. If you have spent less than $25, you can return an item for cash or a gift card to use in the store. However, if you buy more than $100 in a single visit, the store will require you to provide a valid ID and a receipt.

Exemptions

If you want to return something to Target, you can usually do so within 90 days of purchase, so long as it is in its original condition and hasn’t been worn or damaged. To qualify for a refund, you must provide proof of purchase, such as a purchase receipt. Other acceptable proof of purchase include packing slips, mail-order confirmations, and return barcodes for items purchased via the Target app.

Government-issued ID required

To use Target’s return policy, customers must have a receipt or card to return the items. For returns that exceed $150, customers must show government-issued photo ID. Target also tracks all returns to prevent fraud and abuse of its return policy. However, if the item is defective or damaged, customers can still use the receipt or card. Government-issued ID is also required for any returns at Target.

Refunds after 90 days

The Target return policy states that the product must be unopened and in its original packaging within 90 days. However, there are some exceptions to this policy. Electronics like video games, drones, and movies can only be returned within 30 days of purchase. Contract mobile phones and Apple products cannot be returned after 14 days. Refunds after 90 days may also be difficult to obtain, especially if the product is not new.
