However, his breakthrough was not widely recognized in the United States or the United Kingdom until after the Second World War. Zuse’s research eventually led to the development of the first programmable computer in the world, the Z1.

Ferranti Mark 1

The first computer was the Ferranti Mark I, which was introduced in 1958. In 1959, Alan Turing was the director of the University’s computer laboratory. He decommissioned the Mark I and gave it back to the Italian company Ferranti. The Mark I was mostly scrapped, leaving behind a drum read head and two static heads. Ferranti was out of money by 1993, and the company was forced into bankruptcy.

Atanasoff-Berry computer

When was Atanasoff-Burry computer invented? The Atanasoff-Berry computer was the first electronic digital computing device, and it was designed to solve problems involving systems of linear equations.
