How Many Jurassic Park Movies Are There?

Read Time:3 Minute, 20 Second

The Jurassic Park movies are a series of popular dinosaur movies. The original Jurassic Park movie was a box office smash when it was released in 1993. The movie was directed by Steven Spielberg and told the story of paleontologists Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler, mathematician Ian Malcolm, and paleontologist John Hammond, as they created a dinosaur theme park. The park became a disaster when predators began to roam and kill the dinosaurs in the park.

Jurassic Park

There are currently four Jurassic Park movies, with the fourth scheduled to release in 2015. The first three movies were based on the novel by Michael Crichton. The third movie was set in the same world, but was set on a different island. The first two movies were set on Isla Sorna, while the third was set on Isla Nublar. InGen, which is now a part of Universal Pictures, was the original company that trained the dinosaurs.

The original Jurassic Park film was directed by Steven Spielberg, who was back in the director’s chair for this third installment. He worked with the screenplay by David Koepp and introduced new characters into the story. While Spielberg retained Jeff Goldblum from the first film, he made sure to add some new characters. The first film ended in a failed attempt to build a theme park for dinosaurs.

Fallen Kingdom

In the first movie, a family on a camping vacation meets a dinosaur called Nasutoceratops, and it appears to be accompanying a baby. When the child starts to cry, the dinosaur flees. The second film takes place a year later at Lockwood Manor, a mansion about 20 miles from Big Rock National Park. This time, dinosaurs coexist with humans in the world, and this film follows a new set of characters.

The fourth movie, Jurassic World, was originally scheduled to come out in June 2014. Colin Trevorrow was announced as director in March, and Jack Horner revealed a new “big bad” in the film. In July, the release date of Jurassic World IV was delayed until the end of 2015. This film follows the story of Claire Dearing, played by Bryce Dallas Howard. She recruits Owen Grady (Kyle Stanton), a scientist at the park, to save the Velociraptor.

Jurassic Park III

In this third installment of the Jurassic Park series, Dr. Alan Grant is persuaded by a wealthy businessman to conduct an aerial tour of the island of Isla Sorna. However, as his investigation proceeds, he realizes the true purpose of the invitation. Sam Neill plays the role of Dr. Grant, who must save his party before it meets a tragic end. The sequel to the original Jurassic Park was a wildly popular film, and the third installment is no exception.

Although Steven Spielberg initially vetoed the sequel, Joe Johnston was willing to take the project. Spielberg had previously favored another director, but Joe Johnston had expressed interest in directing the third movie. The three writers involved in the movie include Peter Buchman, Alexander Payne, and Jim Taylor. The result was a movie that is more akin to the first film than an exact replica of the previous installment.

Jurassic Park IV

This third installment of the Jurassic Park franchise is set in a luxury Costa Rica resort that is home to genetically engineered dinosaurs. However, when a new genetically engineered dinosaur escapes, a chain reaction sets in motion, causing the other dinosaurs to fight back. Chris Pratt, as the human protagonist, must use his special skills to save tourists from the advancing dinosaurs. You may want to see Jurassic World before you go!

While the original storyline of the Jurassic Park franchise centered around a human being battling a dinosaur, this latest installment focuses on an ex-military hero who becomes a trainer. While this film does share some similarities with the original films, it feels like an action B-picture more than a Jurassic Park installment. And because of this, Jurassic Park IV is a much different movie than its predecessors.
